Best Time to Visit the Caribbean for Vacation

Hi, my name is Scott Bateman. I’m a
professional journalist and travel blogger. I’ve been to the Caribbean many
times and I have a few tips to offer about the best time to go based on the
weather in the Caribbean each year. People flock to the Caribbean for
beaches, blue skies, palm trees and sunshine. But all destinations are not
the same so it’s a good idea to plan ahead for the best possible weather. Tip
number one: take a western Caribbean cruise in the spring because rainfall is
lowest in Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Roatan and Cozumel during that time of year. It’s
also a good time to stay at western Caribbean hotels and resorts because
temperatures are warm but not too hot Tip number 2: go on eastern Caribbean
cruises in late spring to early summer. Water temperatures are a bit cool in
early spring for some destinations. Late spring is better. Here’s an easy tip for you: Avoid going
to the Caribbean in September. That’s the peak of the Caribbean hurricane
season with the most hurricanes and the most tropical storms. But there are a few
exceptions. One is the ABC islands of Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao. They
typically avoid the worst of the Caribbean weather in September. Tip
number 3: Over the last 30-plus years September has averaged four tropical
storms with two of them becoming hurricanes and one of those hurricanes developing
into a major hurricane. This NASA video shows that storms develop in the eastern
Atlantic and move west toward the Caribbean and then into the U.S. as they
become hurricanes. It’s possible to predict up to 10 days in advance if a
hurricane will hit. If the eastern Atlantic looks good, consider a last-minute vacation in
September. What happens on a cruise during bad weather? The ship will change its itinerary and
move away from it. Here is a real statement from a cruise
line during a recent hurricane. “Freedom of the Seas will not be able to call on
st. Thomas and st. Maarten as originally scheduled. Instead the ship will sail to
Montego Bay Jamaica, George Town Grand Cayman and Cozumel Mexico in an effort
to find the calmest seas possible.” What about the Caribbean in winter? The
beaches are nice but the water may be a bit cool for swimming in some places. Plan on lying in the sand or playing in it more than swimming. On the flip side the summer can be very
hot in some destinations with temperatures going above 90 degrees on
many days. If you like it that hot, go to Aruba, Jamaica, Grand Cayman or Cozumel. Thanks for listening to my tips. I hope you have a great trip to the Caribbean.

  1. I went to Cancun in august and I'm going back for 3 weeks soon, I want the hottest month with no rain what month would you suggest? Based on your other video I thought maybe the last week of July and into august, what do you think?

  2. here's several suggestions for saving money during cruises
Look for restaurant special deals. Askonboard or keep an eye out for the occasional alternative restaurant deal to save money on a special meal.
Book spa treatments on port days. Spas often discount services on days in port or during other slow times.
Disconnect your phone at sea. Calling ship-to-shore has always been expensive.
Look for drink specials. If you don't drink enough to make a ackage pay, look for special discounts.
Bring your own drinks. Many lines are won't let you bring alcohol onboard (or they'll charge you a corkage fee), but a few let you bring on soft drinks, juice, bottled water and iced tea.
(I read these and why they work on Arack Ship Tips website )

  3. I also learned the job of a journalist, but now I am author of books about horses and am a trainer for horses and (more) their owners. I always wanted to travel to the carribean. One day I'll do it

  4. Is end of May beginning of June a good time to go to Jamaica? I am torn between March, May/June and August next year. I like hot, warm sunshine ☀️

  5. September is the worst month of the year for the Caribbean hurricane season. It has the most rain, hurricanes and tropical storms.

It's a good idea to avoid going to the Caribbean in September UNLESS you plan a last-minute vacation and check a 10-day weather forecast.
