Community Picnic Celebrates College, Career, Military Readiness

Today is our third annual avid college
colors community picnic. We started this just to promote college awareness for
our fifth and sixth graders. I want to go A&M or Tarleton. Maybe Texas Tech.
They’re pretty good colleges and I just want to go there. In one of the
districts guiding statements is that our students will be college, career, military
ready. We have various colleges represented
here. We have a Armed Forces representative. The military not only is
a great career but it kinda gives them a way to see the world and see
other places and how other countries work. We have a lot of cool job opportunities in the Airforce and it’s just exposure.
There are some things that we can prepare them for here in fifth and sixth
grade that they’ll be able to put in place when they get to Wester. They’ll
be prepared when they get to high school. They’ll have a little bit of knowledge
about what they would like to do in the future and the opportunities that are
available for them. I like it a lot because it’s just always fun
and you get to spend time with your parents. We always want our parents involved. We want
our parents here we wanted to let them know that we have open doors. We want
them to support us because we support with what they’re doing with their
students so it’s a collaboration. It takes a village and so we want them to
know that hey we’re working together to raise great human beings.
