Developing Ecotourism Programs in Ghana with a Peace Corps Business Development Volunteer


It’s really wonderful, wonderful, being here because you see traditional knowledge. Ok? Not just about the food and the trees and that sort of thing, but about people, relationships, life in general. I’m here representing a conservation NGO, so their goal is to protect this ecosystem. Part of the training I’ve done in my first year was to train tour guides to develop a nice tour of something wey’re proud of. And when people come, they pay admission fee and the tour guides take them through the grove. It’s a new source of income. One. Ok, so less farmers and a little bit of money over here on the side for doing the tourism. I mean, it’s nuts and bolts stuff. Seriously, I’m not over here teaching them calculus. I couldn’t if I tried. But I’m – just the basics: bookkeeping, what is a business, business principles, and you actually get into discussions about all that, so it’s nice. �
