Drink a tree on your next camping trip! ;)

Welcome to “Half Pint Hacks” where awesomeness
is our specialty. Today we are going to drink a tree!!!! Yay!!! Alastair: Wait, that’s crazy. Yes, Alastair, it’s a bit crazy but some of
the best things in the world are crazy. You have to ask yourself: “Is this crazy awesome
or just crazy?” Are you going to drink a pine needle soda
with me or not? Yeah! This is a great project for camping but it’s
really fun any time, you just have to have access to an edible tree. Fir trees, cedar trees, and pine trees are
all edible but I don’t think you’re supposed to have pine when you’re pregnant. Are you
pregnant, Alastair? Me either. Let’s do this! We’re collecting fresh springtime pine growth
from up here in the Sequoia National Forest. The new growth has the best flavor. Chop it up. If you’re camping and forgot your chef’s knife,
you can make it without chopping but it will be better if you can chop it. Boil some water and have sugar ready. For every cup of chopped pine needles, add
a cup of boiling water and one cup of sugar. Stir and cover. Let it sit overnight. The next morning, strain out the needles and
keep the liquid. That’s your soda syrup.
