Dutchess County’s 5th Annual Special Needs Picnic

Good afternoon everyone are you having a ThinkDIFFERENTLY afternoon? [Audience: YEAH!] Are we having a good time? [Audience: YEAH!] OK, great! Well listen, my name is Marc Molinaro, I’m the County Executive I am thrilled to welcome you back to this great park in the Town of LaGrange for our ThinkDIFFERENTLY picnic and how about a nice round of applause
for all the folks who helped make this event so very special. So this is our 5th Annual
Picnic I hope you’re having a great time. I am tremendously grateful for everyone in
Dutchess who has made ThinkDIFFERENTLY a success our effort is all about changing minds and
opening hearts of everybody of every ability and I’m very proud to tell you that today
not only have all of the communities in Dutchess County embraced and adopted our ThinkDIFFERENTLY
effort but over 70 communities across the State of New York now have embraced ThinkDIFFERENTLY
as a campaign in their communities and we are making a difference in helping to improve
lives – but it’s not about people who are differently-abled it’s about the rest of us
who aren’t as special and making sure that we understand as a community that we want
to embrace, support, and respect everyone of every ability I hope that you enjoy today’s picnic. If you haven’t already – next week – “ThinkDIFFERENTLY Thursday,” at the Dutchess County Fair. The only County Fair in America that has a day set aside for everybody of every ability. No lights, no sound on the midway in the morning. You get a little extra time to come in in the morning and enjoy the whole fair and I hope you get to take part in that among many, many other events. Now we are very privileged to welcome one person to the team in Dutchess County Government – the only position of its kind in New York State our Deputy Commissioner for special needs — She and a team of hard-working folks throughout Dutchess County government have made this event so many others successful – and we are grateful to Deputy Commissioner Toni Ciarfella Nice round of applause to her and her team [audience applause] And all of those who have helped make this day a success. We’re joined today by our friends both four-legged and two-legged from the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office and we’re grateful to them. And if you haven’t see the Sheriff has dedicated two vehicles – one celebrating its 300 year anniversary – the Sheriff is 300 years old and the other recognizing and celebrating everyone on the Autism spectrum in our Autism Awareness ThinkDIFFERENTLY vehicle We are grateful to the Sheriff’s Office as well. OK, did I forget anybody? I want to acknowledge and thank everyone who has participated – we want you to have a great day is lunch going to be served? [speech fades out] [Music: “High Hopes”]
