First Annual Family Picnic | Johns Hopkins Center for Fetal Therapy

First Annual Family Picnic | Johns Hopkins Center for Fetal Therapy

[MUSIC] Today we’re really excited because
this is the first annual family kinda get together
reunion that we’re doing. And this is just such a great
experience because we actually get to celebrate the lives of these kids
that have come to be because of all the hard work that the team
has done and put in for us. [MUSIC]>>I think it’s so
great that we’re doing this picnic, it’s a really great opportunity for
all of the patients to get to meet other patients that have
gone through something similar. And for us, it’s just so nice to see
all of these families that we saw going through very difficult
times now get to see them outside of a hospital setting and
see how well they’re doing.>>Fetal therapy is a really
special field because you’re always treating the baby,
a mother, a family. And you need to have a very
special skill set and a very special team to
be able to achieve that.>>I think that average person
probably doesn’t understand what the pregnancy is like when you
have a challenge or, in our case, with multiples. So, it’s been really need to be here
today and meet other families who have twins or higher order multiples
or just had other challenges.>>I think it’s nice that the
doctors get to see what their work did and where we are today
because of what they did.>>As an institution,
Johns Hopkins has a huge amount of resources that are very
rarely found in one spot. To be able to draw on that is
actually extremely helpful, and I think it helps to achieve better
outcomes than you could otherwise.>>It is great to see
the result of our work here today it’s really amazing, because we have been seeing these
babies for weeks like as fetuses. And now seeing them alive and
happy it’s just great.>>We always tell the families and the patients that we can relax
once the babies are born. And this day really symbolizes that. [MUSIC]
