Hello, I am Jacques and today I am here in Amsterdam
to meet with Veroniek who is going to tell me a lot more about the work she is doing now,
after graduating from Wageningen University. My name is Veroniek Maat,
I am the owner of Accessible Travel Netherlands. I graduated from Wageningen University & Research in 2010 with the master’s Leisure, Tourism and Environment. To finish my master’s I went to New Zealand to do my internship, and that’s where I learned about the topic of accessible tourism. And when I returned to the Netherlands,
I wanted to continue to work on this topic. So that’s how my study helped me start the company. We have an office in Amsterdam-West. Most of the time I work at the office, but sometimes I work from a hotel
when I am planning to meet some customers or planning to join a tour for example. On an average day at the office, we work on new requests from
people from all over the world. We discuss how we can best help these people. So we organise the hotel, the tours, the transfers
and the mobility equipment if they need it. Sometimes I go into town to meet the customers or to join the tour, but mostly the tours are provided by professional tour guides. I started with this company because I saw a real gap in the market. There was a lot of demand from people with disabilities
and their friends and families, They wanted to travel, or they still want to travel and there was just very little information available for them to be able to travel.
So that’s why I really feel passionate about it, because I can really help people see more of the world than
just their hometown for example. Well, I learned a lot today from Veroniek about the work she is doing now
after graduating from Wageningen University & Research. And I know a lot better how the university supports you in choosing
a career path for your future.
