Hospitality & Tourism Management Orientation

Hospitality & Tourism Management Orientation

Welcome to the Purdue University Libraries
orientation for students in the Hospitality and Tourism Management Master’s Program. In this brief tutorial I’ll introduce you
to the library spaces and resources that can help you with your studies. To begin, let’s visit the Purdue University
Libraries homepage at www.lib.purdue.edu. From the Libraries homepage you can search
for materials, browse databases, and search for online journals. You can also reserve study spaces and access
library specific homepages. You’ll find the most applicable resources
to your area of study on the Parrish Library homepage. To access the Parrish Library homepage, hover
over “Select a Library” in the upper right corner, then choose” Roland G. Parrish Library
of Management and Economics”. From the Parrish homepage you’ll find a
variety of collections, services, and research help, including the Hospitality and Tourism
Management subject guide. The Hospitality and Tourism Management subject
guide was created by Libraries faculty to help you find valuable information for conducting
research. The tabs at the top of the page can help you
navigate through journal resources, article databases, industries, and data resources. Also included in the Hospitality and Tourism
Management subject guide are course guides created specifically for courses in the HTM
program, such as HTM 531. The HTM 531 guide includes resources, such
as citation information and market research; that can help you with research and assignments
specific to this course. Please note that database resources are often
denoted by one or more icons like the ones you see here. You can find a brief description of a resource
by hovering over the information icon. The blue icon indicates that a Guide on the
Side tutorial is available to help walk you through the steps of using a specific database. The red icon indicates that there is a YouTube
tutorial available for this resource. Other icons may indicate that the resource
is freely available to Indiana residents, or that the resource only allows a limited
number of users at one time. You’ll notice that the contact information
for the subject librarian, in this case, Heather Howard, appears on all of the guide pages. You can click on this button to email her
directly or click here schedule an appointment. In addition to the HTM subject guide, there
are other resources available to you through the Parrish Library homepage such as the List
of Business Databases, the database concept map which you can use to determine the database
that would be most helpful depending on the information you’re looking for, and our
Ask a Librarian chat service. Ask a Librarian is a library service that
allows you to chat with a library staff member and get answers to your questions. If you have a question outside of chat hours
you can still submit your questions via email and someone will get back to you within 1-2
business days. Another resource available to you through
Purdue University Libraries is Interlibrary Loan. Interlibrary Loan allows you to request material
not owned by Purdue Libraries. You can find more information on the Interlibrary
Loan website which can be accessed from the Libraries homepage, here, under “Service”. Thank you for watching. If you have any questions, please contact
us at [email protected]
