How Lil Uzi Vert’s “XO TOUR Llif3” Depicts The End of A Relationship | Genius News

Josh: Lil Uzi Vert’s new hit “XO Tour Llif3” has taken on a life of it’s own. The song’s popularity sparked the now viral
#LilUziVertChallenge where fans are showing off their best Lil Uzi Vert dance impressions. The TM88 produced track is labeled as “alternative
rock” on Soundcloud, where it’s already earned 31 million plays. The song’s title is a reference to The Weeknd
and his label XO Uzi was the opening act on his European tour when he recorded the song. “XO Tour Llif3” seems to be inspired by Uzi’s
rocky relationship with longtime girlfriend Brittany Byrd, who he name-checks in the first
verse: The couple broke up last year after dating
on and off since 2014. On the first verse he talks about his dependence
on drugs during their relationship, singing: The song’s hook depicts a heated argument
between the lovers in which Uzi sings: So what did she lie about? We don’t know for sure, but rumors surfaced
in 2016 that Brittany cheated on Uzi. He denied the rumor but chose to announce on Twitter they had broken up. Days later, he spoke
about her to at a concert in Philly. “Yo Brittany been acting crazy, man” “Brittany been acting too crazy man” In the second half of the hook, Uzi sings
the song’s most dramatic lines: As Genius contributor BrianErwin points out,
it’s unclear whose perspective these lines are being sung from. Is Uzi being pushed to the edge? Or is it Brittany? One interpretation is that Brittany says she
isn’t afraid to die, and then she challenges Uzi to push her into suicide. She welcomes the afterlife, because all her
friends are already there. Another interpretation is that Brittany says
she isn’t afraid to die, and then Uzi responds by threatening to kill her. He doesn’t need her—or anyone—because
he’s used to a life with no friends. “All my friends are dead,” could also be
a reference to his money. Rappers often refer to their money as dead
presidents, and the theme of money is a recurring one in Uzi’s music. This interpretation implies that Uzi doesn’t
need her because he’s rich. Whatever the true meaning of the song is,
Uzi’s love life has been pretty messy lately. Stay tuned for even more Genius News

  1. I thought it was that she was saying shes not afraid to die because he is getting pushed further to the edge and because of his drug addiction on top of stress and her, he might snap and kill both of them. Idk, when I first heard the song that popped into mind

  2. I thought everyone knew that Brittany is the one who says "she said: Baby I am not afraid to die"
Because Uzi was gonna break up with her then she tried to make him stay with her by threatening suicide. Thas why he says "she said" before he says that

  3. It doesn't say that he has a dependence on drugs he's just saying that he wants drugs to help take the pain away! like if you agree

  4. I know the song is deep and its really unique..but the more this guy revealed the more she seemed to be nothing but a basic bitch.

  5. I'm sorry but Uzi it's a little early in your career for songs about being on tour lol we have 80s rock for that

  6. I heard this song when it first came out ? but people be late as hell and start bopin a week after or hear it like a month after

  7. Man if it wasn’t for genius’ lyrics breakdown, I wouldn’t have any idea about what the hell half of these songs are talking about tbh
