How to save up money for travel! (Work For Avocados #3)

Car payments, student loans, kids and just
the ever-rising cost of being alive these days! Things just keep getting more
expensive, so where are you supposed to get this money to go traveling? Today, I’m
sharing five fundraising secrets with you that’ll get you on that plane
quickly and out on the road of adventure. One of them will put money aside for you
automatically, without you having to do anything! Good afternoon guys and welcome
to WorkForAvocados! Your weekly adventure guide for how to travel the
world. I’m Michael Regan, and today we’re
talking about taking trips for no extra shifts. I’ve got five fundraising secrets
that will fill your travel funds quickly and get you months worth of adventure.
Make sure you hit the like and subscribe button down below to stay tuned in to
all of our content. The first thing I recommend doing, is getting a change jar.
In my experience, a change jar will bring in $150- $200 a year. I’ve bought flights to Puerto Rico before from this method
alone. It’s pretty good for something I’d probably leave on the ground or lose
in my car. More on how to find cheap plane flights in a future episode. Did
you know the average American household spends three thousand dollars a year
eating out? when you consider restaurants apply a 300%
markup to things, that’s $2,000 you’re gaining just by
shopping here at the grocery store. So what are you really paying for every
month? You might have streaming subscriptions you’re not using, apps
charging you in the background you forgot about after the three-month
trial…gyms you’re not attending, going clothes shopping…so while you’re scaling back on
these activities to save for your trip, don’t feel like you’re getting something
taken away from you! Think about what you’re going to gain from all this. This
is gonna be the experience of a lifetime and I promise that it’s worth more than
any store could ever put a price tag on. So a big reason I’m able to do a lot of
what I do, is because I work in the service industry. Waiting tables,
bartending, bussing…there are all great opportunities to make substantial money
in a short period of time. The seasonal aspect of it makes it fantastic
for flexibility! I make sure that I’m the hardest worker there so if I need to
come back or I need a job somewhere else I’m always welcomed with open arms. If you don’t have any experience in the service industry, traveling is a great
opportunity to get involved. Through it, I was able to bartend in Mexico, do sea turtle
conservation work in Nicaragua and even do some graphic design stuff down in
Colombia. Traveling will bulletproof your resume and any employer looking at it
will be interested in hearing about your international work experience.
This is something that I mentioned earlier and I’m really excited to share
it with you guys. What if there was some way that you could save…without even
having to think about it? It’s a free online app and debit card called Qapital.
Powerful savings tool! Basically how it works, is when you use the Qapital
card through the purchases you can round up to whatever you’d like and put
the difference into your online account. And one of the most powerful features
about Qapital, is that you can hook your direct deposit up to it! So every
paycheck, you’re building something on the side. A few months down the line,
you’re gonna have a lot going on
