Maddie & Tae “Tourist In This Town”: Pennzoil Garage Sessions

(upbeat music) – Hey, it’s Maddie and Tae, and this is our Pennzoil Garage Session. – From the moment that we met, we definitely shared the same dream. She said that she was
really into songwriting, and I was like, well, we
should do this together. We’re gonna go to Nashville and we’re gonna set up some things and see how it goes. – Just being so young and
having the same end goal was pretty rare at that age. I mean, people were thinking
about homecoming dresses and we were thinking
about red carpet dresses. – We both started the whole thing before we even got our drivers license. Me and my dad have some of
our most cherished memories driving back and forth to Nashville. I remember how grateful
I felt and still feel. – I enjoy road trips. I just think it’s nice
to kind of be on the road and look at the scenery and
be with people that you love. Something about the speakers and think also, just
being in a safe haven, it’s really special. – My Toyota Highlander, her name is Pearl. My grandmother had Pearl, and then my mom bought
Pearl from my grandmother, and then I bough Pearl from my mom. Three generations of women in my family have had this vehicle. – I remember going car
shopping with my parents and I had one requirement. I just needed a trunk that was
big enough to fit my guitar, so I finally found my little Hyundai Tucson that fits two guitars. – Yeah. – I call her Snow White. I do name my car too. – I know, it’s more fun that way, you know?
– I don’t know. Yeah. – I remember the first
time I heard our song “Girl in a Country Song” on the radio. It was me and my mom and it was special. – I scared my parents really bad because we were in the
driveway, backing out, and it’s like, (guitar noises) which is the intro of
“Girl in a Country Song,” and I just started screaming, And they’re like, “Oh my gosh!” They thought they’d hit
someone or something. Singing together, collaborating together is my favorite thing in the world. It’s just so much fun
getting to bounce ideas off of someone else, and getting to create
something together constantly. – “Tourist In This Town?” Cool. ♪ Ooh ooh ooh ♪ ♪ I have to find myself ♪ ♪ A new coffee shop ♪ ♪ I have to find another ♪ ♪ Friday night spot ♪ ♪ Cause if I see somebody ♪ ♪ I have to talk ♪ ♪ And I got nothing to say ♪ ♪ Nothing to say ♪ ♪ It’s not like I forgot ♪ ♪ Places we went ♪ ♪ But now the monument’s still ♪ ♪ What I thought it meant ♪ ♪ So I’ve been starting over ♪ ♪ Ever since we went our separate ways ♪ ♪ Now I’m a tourist in this town ♪ ♪ So where do I go from here ♪ ♪ Tourist in this town ♪ ♪ A broken heart for a souvenir ♪ ♪ Ooh ooh ooh ♪ ♪ Looking in windows I ♪ ♪ Don’t recognize ♪ ♪ Like I ain’t been living here ♪ ♪ For my whole life ♪ ♪ Wiping the tears away ♪ ♪ Wasting the night ♪ ♪ Nothing better to do ♪ ♪ Cause it all looks like you ♪ ♪ I’m a tourist in this town ♪ ♪ So where do I go from here ♪ ♪ Tourist in this town ♪ ♪ A broken heart for a souvenir ♪ ♪ Once was found ♪ ♪ But now I’m lost ♪ ♪ Don’t even know the name ♪ ♪ Of the street I crossed ♪ ♪ I’m a tourist in this town ♪ ♪ So where do I go from here ♪ ♪ Ooh ooh ooh ♪ ♪ Ooh ooh ooh ♪ ♪ You turned my home ♪ ♪ Into a city on a map ♪ ♪ I’m okay alone ♪ ♪ But the thing that makes me mad ♪ ♪ Is I feel like a stranger ♪ ♪ Like the only thing I am ♪ ♪ Is a tourist in this town ♪ ♪ So where do I go from here ♪ ♪ Tourist in this town ♪ ♪ A broken heart for a souvenir ♪ ♪ Once was found, ♪ ♪ but now I’m lost ♪ ♪ Don’t even know ♪ ♪ The name of the street ♪ ♪ That I crossed ♪ ♪ I’m a tourist in this town ♪ ♪ So where do I go from here ♪ ♪ Ooh ooh ooh ♪ ♪ A broken heart for a souvenir ♪ ♪ Ooh ooh ooh ♪ ♪ So where do I go from here ♪ ♪ Is a tourist in this town ♪ ♪ So where do I go from here ♪
