NYU Abu Dhabi Campus Tour

[ Music ] – Hello! – Welcome. – Welcome to NYU Abu Dhabi. [ Music continues ] – Hi, welcome to NYU Abu Dhabi. Today we’ll
be showing you our favorite spots around campus and in the city so that you can
get an idea of what it’s like to be a student here. So, let’s go. [ Music ] – We are here at the central plaza which
has the famous NYU Abu Dhabi palm trees. It’s a place where we host a lot
of events like National Day, a lot of students gather here. I like to
personally come here and enjoy the sunset. – H, I’m Herbert. I’m standing in NYU Abu
Dhabi’s gymnasium located in the Campus Center. It houses a 200 meter running
truck and three full basketball courts. – Now we’re at the rock wall here in
the gym which also features state-of-the-art equipment and fantastic
trainers. When I’m in the gym I love to climb and play basketball. – Here we are on
the second floor of the Campus Center. Behind me is the Marketplace – the
secondary dining venue for students in NYU Abu Dhabi. Here they can have not
only great food but also great conversations with people (from) all around the
world. – We’re on the third floor of the Campus
Center and this is the home of the beautiful NYUAD library. The NYUAD
library houses more than 60,000 books 5,000 DVDs and over a 100 computers
for the students to use. We also have a special archive collection that features
the first and early editions of the Shakespeare global collection, translated
into many languages along with outstanding Arabic literature. I
personally love to study in this library especially in the upper-level group
study rooms and the reading room which provides me a great atmosphere to work. – We are here at the NYUAD 50 meter Olympic pool located in the Campus Center’s
basement. This pool is very important to me
because as both an Olympic swimmer and an NYUAD student this is where I come
to train before and after my classes. This is also the pool where I trained in
preparation for the Rio Summer Olympics 2016. [ Music ] – Hi, my name is Maria and right now we are
at the experimental research building at New York University Abu Dhabi. So, NYUAD
has heavily invested its resources in research and this is why we have
exciting collaborative work happening. We have great funding opportunities as well
as state-of-the-art technology. I’m a graduate student working in the Naumov
Group and we are very proud to be pioneers in the self-healing crystal field. – Here we are at the Arts Center which is really a dream come true for any artist.
It houses the Blue Hall, the Red Theater and the Black Box, the last of which is a
customizable space that can be rearranged according to the artists’
needs. The Red Theater which seats 700 and the Blue Hall which has incredible
acoustics. I myself performed the piano recital
there and honestly it was just such a beautiful experience to be able to share
my music in such an incredible space. The Arts Center is also home to visual
design studios, practice rooms. and the woodworking shop. In addition to this we
have artists and residents who come and run workshops and master classes to
teach the students about their experiences, and this is really why it’s
such a special place to me and many of my colleagues. [ Music ] – We’re here at the Engineering Design
Studio — this is a space in which people of all disciplines come to create and
innovate. They come with their ideas and they’re always encouraged to bring them
to life. The type of innovations that we have here range from working with drones
to designing solar-powered houses. What I love about the space besides the
projects that we create are the conversations that stem from the process. – Welcome to the NYU Abu Dhabi Art Gallery. The Art Gallery is an intimate museum
space and it is an experimental exhibition laboratory of sorts where we
have exhibitions that deal with subjects of both regional and international
concern. As you can see we are currently preparing for our next exhibition…and
The Art Gallery is very special to me because I…I was an intern here and I
have a deep interest in the arts. – Now we’re on the High Line which is where we
all live. It’s the outdoor second floor that runs the length of our campus and
it’s a really nice place to go for a walk, to rent a beanbag and read in the
sun or to watch the sunset from the bridge. Welcome to the dorms. Every single dorm room in addition to the bedrooms has a
living area, a kitchen, and two bathrooms which is really nice. Every student lives
on campus so there’s a real sense of community here. I’m a Resident Assistant
so part of my role is to help plan fun events for our floor to bond as a
community. [ Music ] – Asalaamu alaikum (Arabic greeting) and welcome to Abu Dhabi, my hometown and the capital of the United Arab Emirates. Abu Dhabi translates to
mean the father of the Gazelle and you’ll find that Abu Dhabi is a
multicultural (and) vibrant city. Let’s go on a tour on some sites in Abu Dhabi. [Music ] We are here at the corniche which is located in downtown Abu Dhabi. There are shuttles
available for students every day to come and enjoy the city and the events since
the corniche is a hub for many events like the Red Bull Air Race, Beats on The
Beach, and the Think Science exhibition. Welcome to the heart of downtown Abu
Dhabi, the Madinat Zayed neighbourhood. Students come here to run errands maybe
do a little bit of shopping over the weekend, and enjoy meals at the various
cafeterias like the one behind me Foodlands. [ Music ] – We are standing on the grounds
of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi. The mosque is named after our
founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan or as we fondly refer to him,
Baba Zayed. The mosque can accommodate up to 50,000 worshippers and its doors
are always open to visitors wishing to learn more about our cultures and its
traditions. The Grand Mosque is definitely at the top of every student’s list of
must-see places in Abu Dhabi. – So here we are 10 minutes away from campus at Saadiyat Beach. Beach life is a really important part of life in Abu Dhabi for everyone
but especially students. It’s a great place to come and unwind and relax. – Thanks for joining us. – We hope you enjoyed the tour. – Thanks for watching. – Have a great day. – Bye! – Bye! [ Music ]
