Percussion Summer Seminar – Hofstra University


[drumming] The Hofstra University percussion summer seminar is a two week Pre-collegiate program for students in seventh through twelfth grade. You’ll be staying on a college campus, eating college food, studying with college professors and using college facilities. The seminar is gonna give students a chance to experience a wide array of Percussion instruments and styles from drum set to marimba to classical percussion to afro-cuban drumming not to mention They’re gonna play together every single day in percussion ensemble. Participants are gonna have the opportunity to work with world-class guest instructors. The evenings are often gonna culminate in our Rising Stars concert series. We have former students that are gonna be present in concerts and other artists from our region that get to come out and perform for students and showcase their incredible talent. On Super Saturday We’re gonna take a bus to New York City and visit some of the world’s finest music schools. Then we all go to a major Broadway production. All the seminar events are centered around the Joseph G. Shapiro Family Hall a modern world-class facility which houses the Hofstra University music department. We know how important NYSSMA and college auditions are for many of these young percussionist. That’s why some of our master classes are gonna focus on these milestone moments for these young players. We’re offering a unique opportunity to recreate that experience through a mock college audition will be taking students through the process of selecting music, preparing the music and producing an excellent presentation to give them the best chance possible a success in these auditions. The grand finale to this seminar is a percussion ensemble concert where every single student gets to perform right here on campus at Hofstra University. Participating in this unique seminar is quite an experience. Hofstra is a beautiful college campus. So you get to feel what it’s like to attend a real University at the same time you’ll be involved and submerged in a world-class music program.
