Rotorua’s tourism industry booms to the tune of $593m

Rotorua’s booming tourism industry has injected more than $593 million into the local economy
in the past year, more than $120 million up on 2014. Hinerangi Goodman has the story. No matter where one looks,
hordes of tourists are everywhere. The payoff from that has been good
for the local economy. Although many are
from overseas countries, the domestic marketing
has also boosted the numbers. At this time, Rotorua is leading the way
as a top tourism destination, however, the vision here for Rotorua is that it will forever remain
a top destination. At this growth rate, the question posed is whether
the present accommodation in Rotorua is also able to match demand. No doubt if the Rotorua Tourism
economy is in good health, this should reflect and also benefit
its communities and people. Hinerangi Goodman, Te Karere.
