Dear students! Thank you very much for showing interest for the Technical University here in Munich – the TUM. In the scope of the summer schools we offer we would like to give you a flavour of what our university is doing – the atmosphere here at our university, but of course also the atmosphere here in Munich and in Bavaria. The summer school Finding Nano has been one of the best experiences in my life. The Summer School Finding Nano at TUM was very special for me. TUM is a very international university, that has offered me plenty of chances for research and work. Nanoscience and nanotechnology are highly active – if not the most active research areas in modern physics, engineering, chemistry and material science. So my aim is to fascinate our international summer students for this fascinating field. In our course, we explain basic physical concepts and key technologies on examples of topical subjects…. such as quantum dots, nanowires, graphene and other two-dimensional materials. I was born and grew up in Munich, but at the time of the program I had been abroad for 5 years. After such a long time away from Germany, I saw the TUM summer school as both a great chance to reconnect with my hometown… and also as a means to expand my knowledge in nano-technology. This summer I chose to join the Summer School program Finding Nano at TUM … because I wanted to gain experience in nanotechnology along with immersing myself in a different culture. In this program, I had the opportunity to take classes from TUM professors… and visit companies and research institutes related to nanotechnology. The German courses of the Summer School program stand out because … they give participants the chance to explore and experiencethe German language and culture… as a community in a welcoming environment. They are given insights into using the German language… not only in an academic environment but also in daily life,… so they can get to know people and enjoy everything Munich has to offer. During the Summer School program, I had a chance to get to know the university… and meet many new friends from all around the world who would eventually also come to Munich. After this experience, starting a new full-time Master program at TUM was much easier, and that is what I am doing now. I do this summer program here at TUM because in my opinion,… Germany is good at manufacturing and Germans are very creative. For me, TUM is a university with great academic culture. The study experience at TUM gives me a good insight into what it is like to study in Germany. Munich has everything you could hope for and will always surprise you with something new. I am happy to say that this program has given me a better insight on my career as an engineer.
