Study International Hospitality Management at UCLan

My name is Kelly Henley, Lecturer in Hospitality Management. Today we’re at the Hotel Gotham on King Street in Manchester we’ve had a show-round of the facilities the hotel rooms, the club bar, the restaurant We’ve looked at the reception we’ve looked at some of the service offered here at the hotel, and finished off with a questions and answers session. STUDENT: Today, we have have learned a lot about the industry and how it works and it’s a good opportunity for people to have an insight about what the hotel looks like – especially for those who don’t have any experience, or don’t visit 5 star hotels like this often. It’s also a great chance to have some networking with people who are here and ask some questions that you wouldn’t be able to via social media. We are studying subjects that help us to really understand how to manage an hotel especially a 5 star hotel. Thanks to UCLan for example I just got my placement here, and I will go to Dubai in a 5 star luxury hotel. The students often come into contact with the bigger branded hotels that generally have quite set brand standards. The difference between this hotel and the other hotels that students may be familiar with is that this is a boutique hotel, is only a 60 bedroom hotel It offers individual service and tailored service to the to the guests it’s quite exclusive, its a 5 star hotel in the centre of Manchester. Employers look favourably on students that take part in what visits, work experience – so by UCLan taking the students out on visits like this we’re giving them the tools to then take away and put on their CV, and hopefully get them a great job at the end of their university journey.
