The Clumsy Traveler: Planning Your Next Vacation

The Clumsy Traveler: Planning Your Next Vacation

Hello! Hi everyone! My name is Sebrin, and I am the blogger at
TheClumsyTraveler.com In addition to being a blogger, I am a tea fanatic, I like to read a lot, I like to watch Netflix even more, I am a newlywed, and I have two fur-baby-children
name Ren and Mo. I’m really excited to announce that I’m doing
this financial planning series. I have partnered with Mint for the next few
months as I start to prepare for my birthday trip
in June/July. My birthday trip is 6 months away. So, I’m
obviously really excited about that. If you want, you can mark it down in your
calendars – it’s June 24th. I’ll totally take a present if you feel like
it. So I’m going to take you through, step by
step for the next six months, how to budget your flights, how to save beforehand,
how to budget accommodation, how to make a budget in general and yeah! This video is also tied into a blog post that
you can find on the Mint blog. That blog post basically explains why you
should trust me when it comes to budgeting for travel. And the reason that you should is because
I feel like I’ve done just about every mistake that you can possibly think of. Between studying abroad, going on my honeymoon
and taking a bunch of trips in between, I basically have learned the things that you
need more than anything to make a seamless trip possible. I’ve made a lot of mistakes in the saving
department. I realize now that I could have done a lot
more, and this is where I come in to help you guys. I can tell you everything that I have learned,
everything I’ve done wrong, and everything that I’ve picked up since then
that has made me a better saver, a better traveler,
a better everything. And this is all for you guys. First things first, you have to start making
a preliminary budget. This budget, by no means, has to be accurate. It does not have to be 100% accurate, 75%
accurate, you’re really just trying to get a ballpark
figure of what you should be expecting to save and how much you will be spending on this trip. Think of it as a first draft for an essay. You’re really just laying out a template for
yourself so you just get an idea of where you’re going and what you should
be doing. You really can’t go wrong with this preliminary
budget. So for example, I have three different budgets
that I decided to look into. Ireland, Peru and Tanzania. Very different places, all on different continents, I don’t know why! They’re just some of the places I really want
to go. So, the takeaway from today is: I’m Sebrin. Just remember, that the first step to any
trip and financial planning is to start a preliminary budget. Think three to five different locations. Five might be a lot, but three is pretty good. I guess the other thing to take away from
this is that I’m a crazy cat lady and this is probably going to get a little
weird. Make sure you guys follow along my journey
as I save for my birthday trip. Next month, I’m going to be getting into the
fine details about how you’re going to save for your trip. Travel hacks, apps, websites, all these different
deals and sneaky ways you can save lots of money. So, that’s probably going to be the highlight
of the series. Make sure that you follow Mint as well as
The Clumsy Traveler so you can always be up to date on all these
fun things. And also because I’m fun, and why not? Cause there’s travel things and cats and my
husband and me doing stupid stuff! Ahhh! I’m really excited and I guess we’ll see what
happens!
