The Savoir-Faire of the Pleats from the Dior Summer 2020 Men’s Collection

The Savoir-Faire of the Pleats from the Dior Summer 2020 Men’s Collection

This technique is lots of different panels
of pleated silk crepe. The way that they do the pleating
is all by hand, caught onto cork boards with tiny pins
and then pressed in place, which are then hand-tacked
onto the lightest organza base. How we did that was we worked
with an atelier in Paris who only do hand-painting
and hand-spraying so we could really saturate
these very deep, intense blues. Then by saturating
all of these blues, what we did was work
with different directions of dégradé. Some that were straight,
some that were diagonal, some that were slightly curved. And then in the atelier at Dior, they’re mounted on to the garment. Every one is created
specifically to the pattern so that we really controlled
different levels of movement, direction. We worked with this very rich,
almost royal blue and then beautiful,
almost sunset orange. When it moves, you really get
this sense of almost a liquidity. Something that feels like it’s alive,
that it’s moving on the garment.

  1. Wow. The savoir-faire really is that highly technical. We thought they were prints but knowing that these were actually micropleats made it to a higher level of complexity. Bravo, Dior!

  2. Non ci sono parole la creatività e la manualità di questa Maison sono meravigliose!!!! La cosa importante e proprio il fare a mano. Che è pazzesca e bella al tempo stesso!!! Bravi
