TRAVELING AROUND THE WORLD: Our Story & First Day on the Road!

TRAVELING AROUND THE WORLD: Our Story & First Day on the Road!

I don’t really know what many people do the
day before they leave for a 9 month trip but it’s probably not driving things like this. We’re packing up to leave! Oh, where to begin… What is all this crap?! No, the black ones are so bad. Apprehension is high. I just fainted in Walgreens… Two… Three! Whoo!! We won we won we won! So we’ll see you in Singapore! Wait wait wait wait. We should probably kick off episode one by
actually introducing ourselves. But before we do that- cue that title card! I’m Allison. I’m Tim! But everyone calls him Diemer. Everyone still calls her Finney even though
she is a Diemer now. I’m from Northern Illinois. Not, like, Chicago, like, cornfields. I’m from D-Troit! I’m from the suburbs of Detroit. We just finished up 9 months of travel. We’re going into our 10th month, we’re posted
up here in Bali and we’re starting to put these episodes out. TRIPPED covers, like, every minute of us travelling..
except… sleeping. It covers the times where Allison is crying
because she got bit by a bee while she was driving a motorcycle. Well, I capture every time Tim is lost and
won’t believe me when I tell him directions – I absolutely never get lost. During our trip we saw things that were so
beautiful they belonged on Instagram. Other days we saw, nothing, because it was
raining. And it wouldn’t – quit – raining. Looking at you New Zealand! We stayed in some epic locations while we
traveled. Also – airports. Before all of this happened though and we
took off to travel on this trip we were fully functioning adults. We weren’t hippies, we’re not vagabonds, we’re
not filthy a$$ backpackers. ’09 when there were literally no jobs I found
a job working at Ann Taylor Loft in the mall. I was a plumber for a long time. Wedding dress model. Chemist. Grad School. Buyer at a catalog for high-fashion dog accessories. Met Tim. Lunches with Finney. So boring I won’t even bring it up. Tim proposed. Big a$$ wedding, then we started to become
real adults. I was a Human Resources Manager. Events for Bud Light. Big Tech Company. And then we were like… we should quit our
jobs and travel the world. It’s 1:17 in the morning. I can’t sleep because we are leaving on Sunday,
which is pretty crazy. It’s going to be weird, like, talking into
the camera and narrating everything that is going on, so I guess this is good practice
as any. So with this whole trip, it’s not like we
just packed our bags and ran away from home. There was two years of saving involved, there
was a lot of planning and prep – really just meant a lot of phone calls. I appreciate your help, that’s probably not
the call you get every day. This is hard. This is hard! This is an awesome itinerary. But this is like our itinerary for like -2months-
2 months. Right. No, the black ones are so bad. Are they? The brown ones don’t look that bad with the
shorts. Well this is ridiculous. I just fainted in Walgreens because I got
four vaccination shots. Just for a couple seconds I looked down with
my eyes closed and I was unresponsive, but it felt like I was like asleep for 30 minutes
and I like lifted up my head and looked at her and I like felt so rude that I fell asleep? Like, with her? But I didn’t know where I was? But then we had to, actually, get ready to
go. We had to pack up all of our stuff, say goodbye
to Chicago, and our Chicago apartment. Who is this for? We’re packing up to leave! Oh, yeah! And it’s so refreshing. Because, things like this, everyone has things
like this. What, what is all this crap?! This is something very special. Ooooh! We’re going to drink this on our last night
and we’re going to be so happy! Ready? -They’re going on their honeymoon! Whoo! What did you do today? Today we had to go do all of our favorite
Chicago things because we’re leaving Chicago in 7 days. Ok – here’s our entire room. I don’t really know what many people do the
day before they leave for a 9 month trip, but it’s probably not driving things like
-this to get it out of the way so that we can park this in there. That’s what we’re doing right now. And then say goodbye to important things like
all of our incredible friends there. -Wait they’re going to beat us! They’re going to beat us! -One more, one more! Yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah! We won we won we won! And then our families! I MISS MY MOM! Happy birthday dear BOB AND TIM AND CHRIS! TIM TIM! The great thing about this trip was that there’s
not a lot of structure around it. We just knew that on August 31st we were going
to take off and start heading East. We were first heading to Germany for Oktoberfest! We had a cousin to go visit in Poland, friends
in the Philippines in November, and parents in Singapore in January. And we figured that the money would carry
us any where from maybe 6 months to 1 year, but had no idea what to expect. #loveisreal. Apprehension is high. A little weird. A little weird! I feel a little weird. So we’ll see you in Singapore! Whoop! In January. Yeah yeah! “Acting!” Ok! We’re doing it! Tim, what’s going on? Just, just starting the first of many times
waiting. We’re out of the car. Our first stop was Nur, Germany. Which was super random, but everywhere around
Munich for Oktoberfest is incredibly expensive and we were using that as a home base to explore
Southern Germany, but you’ll really, you’ll see how well all of that goes. Are you sleepy? -Are you shooting video? Very sleepy. Ready- ready to get to our spot. Maybe drink a cup of bleach too. I feel gross. We’ve been on this bus for a while. We just got the official tour; where we learned
how to use all the techy equipment. Which, it’s pretty cool. Do you want to see it? Absolutely. Well come on! Here’s the bedroom! But look up there at the lights! Ok I’m just going to touch- wait show down
here- what’s this? I’m going to touch it- and- oop! There it is! But- we can also- wait- oh- I’m not very good
at it! Comes with meat slicer! We had a little stint in the cab. These Euros did not come without a cost. The cab driver did not speak any English,
not that he should. And I didn’t know how to say any words except
for “I’m sorry”. So I just waved an American Dollar and a credit
card and he goes “nein” “nein” and now our ATM card doesn’t work. Good thing I had that other ATM card from
a different bank. And now I guess we just go get some groceries? -Let’s get cleaned up and go. Ok, well, we need to eat, too. Look how “touristed” we are right now. Yeah. Nobody else is wearing bright orange. At all. Nobody. Nobody. Look at this backpack- please rob me! Please come steal from me! But they won’t. It’s nice here. Safe. Alo! See, here’s the thing. Literally nobody speaks English. Which is fine. That’s the genuine experience we would be
looking for. But that has never been my experience traveling
anywhere else. We were lied to. First of all, – aren’t you way too close on
that? I’m pretty close. You’re way too close. Ok, first of all, the first thing everyone
tells you is don’t worry, everyone speaks English. We’ve met one person that could point us in
the direction of the bathroom. And, the other thing, is that in all my traveling,
I’ve been able to speak the language cuz I’ve only been to Spanish speaking countries. And I try to. I want to so bad, but everyone just reverts
to English because they want to practice English! I really need to get some food! Quick little interview Tim. Um, my 2 years of high school German have
been very applicable here. I’ve been able to integrate myself into society
really easily. Um, Allison is struggling with the language
a bit, but- I think you’re embellishing – a bit, a bit – just a bit. -A “bitte” haha! 20 whole minutes later, morale of the group
is low. We still have not eaten. We’ve gone now nearly 2 hours without eating
at the house. I don’t know what’s going to happen. We’ve walked like 3 miles. We walked like 2 kilometers. You don’t know that! You don’t even know what 2 kilometers feels
like! It’s roughly a mile. I’m so hungry! What are your initial thoughts on the apartment? We just live in Germany now. Volksfest. She’s doing a really good job. Look at her know all that German. This whole thing is not necessarily by choice. So basically we’re getting drunk and riding
carnival rides in the shadow of a Na Monument. Can not order food, experts at alcohol! Absolutely! Our entire tour was just trapped in there…
the torture chamber.

Watching as many videos I can on traveling abroad but I like it when travelers are new to it so I can learn as you go…because we will be right behind you soon making lots of mistakes and hopefully learning from them. I only speak English & Spanish. Our daughter speaks a little of some other languages but not sure if she will be with us on all the trips…so I'm nervous about that. I have the apps on my phone to help with translations. Corssing our fingers 🙂 Happy New Year! Going to check out what other videos you have now 🙂 Melody(Florida USA)
