Vemdalen och dragracing-SM – Gone Camping fjällvandrar och besöker Sundsvall

Some sights in nature are
especially appealing to us travelers. Like for instance waterfalls. In Vemdalen, there’s a family adventure
called Find Five Falls. That’s where we’re headed. Lots of us have skied
in the beautiful Vemdalen, but it looks different without
a meter-thick blanket of snow. During summer, ski pistes are empty
and the lifts long for skiers, but there are still exciting activities. I check in at Vemdalens Camping, only ten minutes from Vemdalsskalet. Here you’ll find 100 camping lots
and a handful of cabins. A hiking map of the five falls
or an app you can download is all you need to find your way. I join a group of hikers looking
to explore these enchanted forests. Towards Fettjeåfallet There are five falls and they all
have different characteristics. Fettjeåfallet is the most spectacular
and it’s 60 meters high. It’s a twisting three-kilometer hike with the stream running next to you. It’s like an enchanted forest. It’s great for kids since you
get to jump around on rocks. The hilly terrain is full of streams
running both slow and fast. The hike to the falls is often almost
as beautiful as the main attraction. But only almost. There is something
special about these aquatic spectacles. At Fettjeåfallet, you have wind shelters
and campfire sites, making it a perfect spot
to enjoy your packed lunch, rest your legs
and enjoy the surroundings. It’s easily accessible and family friendly. It’s easy to start hiking. You can
drive your car to the starting place. The waterfalls are easy to get to. The second fall we visit
is called Sångbäcksfallet and it’s my personal favorite. Imagine enjoying this magical scenery
a ten-minute hike from the parking lot. I love Sweden. After the waterfalls in Vemdalen,
we’ve headed east to Sundsvall and to Bergafjärdens Camping. Time for dinner and you can
probably guess what’s on the menu. We’re having a Caesar salad
with salmon and diced bacon. I have some suggestions
for making this easier. You need a lot of ingredients,
but there’s a faster way. Instead of mixing mayo, egg and oil,
you can buy a ready-made base. And if you want croutons
or fried bread on top, you can also buy that ready-made.
Let’s do this. The secret to a good Caesar salad
is in the dressing. If you get that right, you’re home free. You need just the right mix of saltiness,
fattiness and acidity. But when you get it right,
it feels both luxurious and healthy. You can do a classic salad with chicken, but I want to try something different
and put some salmon fillets on the grill. No matter your choice,
you still need some crispy bacon. Here’s my Caesar salad
with grilled salmon and diced bacon. I’ll enjoy this quietly, because it
will be full speed ahead tomorrow. Find the recipe at camping.se Bergafjärdens Camping & Havsbad
is spectacularly situated and offers both cabins and camping lots
with an ocean view. There’s a guest harbor,
a barbecue site, a sauna, minigolf and a restaurant which offers live music. Its main attraction is that
it’s situated right by the water and has a private beach. But we’re here to experience
the Swedish Drag Racing Championship. It’s a sport full of amazing numbers. The fastest cars in the world
produce 8,000 horsepower. After just one second,
they reach almost 200 km/h. And the fuel consumption
is then five liters a second. There are different classes
for different ages and vehicles, but the main focus is always the same. To be the fastest. You can drive dragster
the year you turn eight, in the class Junior Dragster. When you’re sitting out in front
and take off, you get to go really fast.
That’s the best part. I’ve been with Dad to competitions
since I was three or four years old. I’ve watched from the stands
and always been interested. The fastest class is called Pro Modified. I meet up with Michael Gullqvist
and his light blue speed monster. We have an onboard computer
which logs lots of different parameters. It tracks how fast the wheels
are spinning, the engine’s RPM, temperature, pressure and all that.
We log lots of things. That’s the trickiest part of this. You have to look at all the data and decide what to do to make
the car run better the next time. You have to be really focused. Part of driving is about
reaction time at the start. You have to think about what to do
and be mentally prepared. Then you have to try not to screw up. One of the fun things is that halfway
down the track, you get over 300 km/h. That’s after just three seconds,
so it all happens very quickly. The championship consists
of a series of summer races and going into the finals at Sundsvall
Raceway, the trophy was up for grabs. But Michael Gullqvist
was fastest of them all and bagged his third
straight championship title. That’s it from Gone Camping for now,
but our travels will continue. I hope to see you again
on this channel or out on the roads. The beautiful waterfalls
can be found in Vemdalen. We experienced drag racing
at Sundsvall Raceway. And we stayed at Vemdalens Camping
and Bergafjärdens Camping.
